IBS IS WORSE IN SUMMER

Summer can be very hot, we sweat lot losing water, and even more if we are active. If you don’t replenish the lost water, it will lead to dehydration.

Dehydration affects IBS:

*Dehydration impairs the digestive system, potentially causing bloating, gas, and stomach pains due to fermenting foods.

  • It's important to stay hydrated, aiming for eight glasses of water a day (about two liters), and more if exercising or sweating a lot.

·  You change your diet in hot weather:

  • People tend to eat more cold, raw foods in hot weather, which might be different from their usual diet.

  • Raw foods can be harder to digest for those with a sensitive stomach, leading to bloating and excess gas.

·  Less movement affects IBS:

  • Hot weather often results in reduced physical activity.

  • Less exercise can alter bowel habits, potentially worsening constipation due to dehydration and harder stools, or lack of physical triggers for bowel movements.

·  Heat preventing sleep may make IBS worse:

  • Hot weather can disrupt sleep, and lack of sleep can heighten pain sensitivity.

  • Those with digestive or abdominal pain may feel more pain when tired.

  • Hot weather affects sleep, which can exacerbate pain perception in the body.

·  Some people with IBS are more sensitive to heat:

  • Studies indicate that people with IBS may be more sensitive to heat compared to those without IBS.

  • Increased heat sensitivity may lead to more pronounced pain.

Marica Gaspic

Living with IBS can quietly take over your life — not just through pain and bloating, but through the constant uncertainty, loss of confidence, and fear of not being able to trust your own body.

I help high-performing women with IBS move from symptom-chasing to true physiological stability — by understanding IBS as what modern gastroenterology defines it to be: a disorder of gut–brain interaction involving the nervous system, microbiome, immune function, and stress physiology.

As a pharmacist and gut health coach — and as someone who has personally lived with IBS — I bring both clinical expertise and lived understanding to the work we do together. My clients don’t just “manage” IBS. They rebuild trust in their body, regain energy and confidence, and create a sustainable system of support that fits their real life.

This is not about restriction or short-term fixes.

It’s about building a body that finally makes sense.
